2.TOURS OF HANOI AND SURROUNDINGS

All the described tours include minibus, English-speaking guide, entrance fees, bicycling, boating and homestays if any, and meals as indicated. They do not include your drinks, extra-charge activities and optional tips.

HANOIDAY-TOUR OF HANOI (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday only)
Pick up at your Hanoi hotel for a short minibus ride to the Tran Quoc Pagoda, a national heritage on the shore of the large West Lake. We then visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the final resting place of Vietnam’s greatest father, and the stilt house where he lived and worked from 1958 to 1969, and the nearby One-pillar Pagoda, modeled after a lotus flower, a symbol of Hanoi. Minibus ride to the famous Museum of the Minorities of Vietnam, a showcase of the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam and some traditional houses. We then ride back to Old Hanoi for lunch.

Another ride takes you to the superb Temple of Literature, Hanoi most famous temple and Vietnam’s first university, built in 1070 under King Ly Nhan Tong and dedicated to Confucius and Scholars. We then reach Hoan Kiem Lake to visit the small Ngoc Son Temple. Optional one-hour cyclo ride through the Old Quarter at extra-charge. Return to your hotel.

DAY-TOUR OF HANOI + BAT TRANG CERAMIC VILLAGE (Monday, Wednesday, Friday only)

Pick up at your Hanoi hotel for a short minibus ride to the Tran Quoc Pagoda, a national heritage on the shore of the large West Lake. PERFUME PAGODA (Chua Huong) (one day)

The Perfume Pagoda is one of the most important Buddhist religious sites in Vietnam. The complex lies on a limestone mountain which can be reached only by boat. Our tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel around 8 am. After a 2 hours traveling through the Red River Delta, we arrive at Ben Duc boat harbor, where you board a rowing boat for a one hour trip on the Yen River, amid mountains and rice fields. We arrive at the main pagoda and climb to the top of the mountain, either by foot or by a cable car (extra-charge), where you visit the Sacred Perfumed Cave (Huong Thich).

We then go back down for lunch (also either by foot or by a cable car at extra-charge), followed by a small climb to the large Thien Tru Pagoda. Return by boat to Ban Duc and by bus to Hanoi.

WEST PAGODA AND THE ANCIENT VILLAGE OF DUONG LAM (one day)

Pick up at your Hanoi hotel around 8:00 for the minibus ride to the Citadel of Son Tay, a 1822 Vauban fortification classified as historical monument in the old quarter. We then arrive at the village of Duong Lam/Mong Phu, where we visit the Mong Phu temple, the centuries old ancient houses, taste the famous local rice wine and rice cakes. We then ride a bicycle on peaceful roads to the temples of King Ngo Quyen and Phung Hung, two Vietnamese kings born in Duong Lam, and visit the holy “Milking Well” natural source (It is believed that a couple will have a child if the spouses drink its water).

 

Lunch in Mong Phu in a 400 year-ancient house, followed a short minibus ride to the superb 8th Century Tay Phuong Pagoda, famous for its wooden roofs and its 18 ancient Arhan statues. We then go to the Van Phuc silk village, where you learn about the silk making process and can shop at the silk market. We then ride back in Hanoi, where we drop you at your hotel around 17:30.

HALONG BAY ON LAND (HOA LU – NINH BINH – TAM COC) (One day)

Pick up at your hotel around 8:00 for the ride Hanoi-Hoa Lu, with a stop en route at an Arts and Crafts Center (lacquerware, paintings, embroideries, etc.). We arrive around 10:30 at the ancient capital of Hoa Lu, where we visit two beautiful temples dedicated to a king of the Dinh and Le dynasties, as well as the excavations of a 10th century old palace. Minibus ride to the famous village of Tam Coc, in the middle of the lime peaks and rice fields of “Halong Bay on Land”.  Those who enjoy the real countryside can ride a bicycle for 5 km in the village and to the Bich Dong Pagoda, set on 3 stages on a cliff (others go to Bich Dong with the minibus).
Buffet lunch in Tam Coc, followed by the famous rowing boat ride on the Tam Coc River, in between sheer cliffs and through 3 tunnels. Return to Hanoi, where we drop you at your hotel around 18:00.

MAI CHAU ADVENTURE (2 days)

Day 1 : HANOI – MAI CHAU

Pick up at your Hanoi hotel around 8:00 for the 3-hour ride through the Red River Delta and the mountains, to arrive into the magnificent Valley of Mai Chau. (short stop en route) ; we stop in the nearby Ban Lac Thai Village, with its traditional stilted houses. Welcome drink and lunch. The afternoon is spent bicycling with your guide to observe farmers working in their fields, women weaving silk products and visit surrounding peaceful villages. The rest of the afternoon is free, either bicycling, walking, shopping or just resting. Enjoy an outdoor BBQ party in the garden, with degustation of the local ruou can rice wine, and watch Thai traditional dances. Night in your homestay small dormitory or an individual river view bungalow.

Day 2 : TREKKING TO REMOTE VILLAGES

After breakfast, your guide leads you to remote villages, Na Meo and Na Mo, to learn more about the local culture and customs. Back to the homestay for lunch and check-out; free time for shopping and relaxing. Return to your Hanoi hotel, where you arrive around 19:00.

BABE LAKE / BAN GIOC WATERFALLS

We can organize for you a 3-days’ tour of Lake Babe only, including one day of boating on the lake and the Nang River with visit of a cave and the Dau Dang Waterfalls. However, there are no organized group tours to the lake; it can be done only by car with a driver and a guide. Please do not hesitate to question us for a detailed itinerary and rates.
We also can propose to you a 3-days’ organized group tour Hanoi-Langson-Cao Bang-Ban Gioc Waterfalls-Babe Lake-Hanoi; it involves a long ride every day, but allows you to see the two most beautiful sites of the Northeast, Babe Lake and the waterfalls.

The rate per person is 120$.
